Gallagher Re has appointed a new broker to its UK casualty facultative team as the global reinsurance broker continues to strengthen its capabilities in financial and professional lines reinsurance.
Mike Stankard has joined its UK Casualty Facultative (Fac) business, bringing more than 16 years of experience in financial and professional lines (FinPro) reinsurance.
According to the announcement, the new hire began his career in the insurance sector as a professional indemnity underwriter before transitioning into the reinsurance broking space. In his most recent role, he managed a financial and professional lines and cyber facultative reinsurance portfolio, developing tailored solutions for complex reinsurance placements.
His experience spans underwriting and broking across the London market. Prior to joining Gallagher Re, Stankard worked at Willis Towers Watson, where he held a broking leadership role within the reinsurance division, overseeing placements and client relationships within the FinPro and cyber facultative markets.
Earlier in his career, he spent more than eight years at HCC International as a professional indemnity underwriter, focusing on specialty risks and underwriting profitability. Before that, he worked at Towergate Underwriting Financial Risks as an assistant underwriter, gaining early experience in professional indemnity underwriting and financial risk coverage.
Over the course of his career, Stankard has built expertise in structuring reinsurance solutions for large and complex placements across financial institutions, professional liability, and cyber risks. His background in underwriting, as well as broking, is expected to support Gallagher Re’s advisory capabilities for insurers seeking tailored facultative reinsurance coverage.
The appointment comes amid growing demand for facultative reinsurance solutions as insurers face rising claims severity, emerging cyber risks, and more complex professional liability exposures.
Stankard is based in London and will work with Gallagher Re’s casualty facultative team to support large and complex reinsurance placements across the UK and international markets.
