Gallagher Re has appointed Odd Kåre Engh Mistereggen as a fac reinsurance broker for its EMEA division, the latest in a wave of facultative hires as the firm builds out a global placement platform.
Mistereggen, who brings experience in P&C risk transfer, captives, and fac reinsurance across property damage and business interruption, contractors' and erection all risks, and casualty lines, joins from Howden Re in Oslo.
His background also spans project management and retail broking. He previously spent five years at Arctic Insurance AS from October 2020, rising from assistant broker to insurance broker, and earlier worked as a project manager at Insr Insurance Group ASA.
He is the second Nordic-based hire for Gallagher Re's EMEA fac reinsurance team, following the appointment of Henrik Hoppendorff as a senior facultative broker in Stockholm last May.
The Nordic hires sit within a broader buildout that began in mid-2025, when Gallagher Re created the role of global facultative CEO and tapped former Aon executive Pablo Muñoz to fill it.
The firm has since launched a dedicated captives risk transfer team in December, added two brokers to its US property fac team in February, named Steven Housse as its North America fac leader in March, and brought Mike Stankard into the UK casualty fac unit that same month.
The expansion comes as demand for facultative placement grows across the industry. A WTW survey found that 86% of senior P&C insurance executives considered fac reinsurance a key part of their risk and capital strategy, with 68% expecting to increase their purchases over the following two years.
Market conditions help explain the urgency. Swiss Re estimates global insured losses reached $107 billion in 2025, with the US accounting for 83%, even as average US and Canadian property fac rates fell 25% to 30%. Rising losses and softening pricing have made quality intermediation more critical for cedants managing their net retentions.
Gallagher Re is not alone in the push. Rival brokers have also been building out their EMEA and Nordic fac reinsurance teams in recent months, with several making senior hires across Stockholm, Oslo, and London.
Mistereggen holds a Master of Science in business and finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration in applied macroeconomics from BI Norwegian Business School.
