Fortitude Reinsurance (Fortitude Re) has announced a US$200,000 donation to the Cumberland River Compact through its Fortitude Re 4 Good community partnership program.

The contribution was presented during a volunteer tree planting event at Cane Ridge High School in Nashville, where Fortitude Re employees joined local volunteers to plant native trees and support the region’s long-term sustainability goals.

“This partnership reflects Fortitude Re’s deep commitment to creating lasting impact where we live and work,” said Amanda Stewart, SVP, employee experience and head of Fortitude Re 4 Good.

Stewart noted that supporting the Cumberland River Compact’s education and restoration initiatives helps equip the next generation with the knowledge and resources to protect their environment and ensure a stronger, more sustainable future for communities.

The Cumberland River Compact works to enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its streams through environmental education, community engagement, and restoration programs.

The donation from Fortitude Re will help expand tree planting and education initiatives across Middle Tennessee, increasing green space, improving water quality, and enhancing environmental awareness.

The charitable efforts of Bermuda’s re/insurance sector have become increasingly visible in recent years. According to the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR), member companies contributed US$7.3 million to charitable causes in 2024, with an additional US$1.25 million allocated to Bermudian student scholarships. These initiatives reflect a broader industry trend of supporting local communities and investing in education.

Workforce development has also been a focus, as ABIR members provided nearly 100 paid internships for Bermudian students last year. These opportunities are designed to foster local talent and provide practical experience for young professionals entering the industry.

Beyond direct charitable giving, Bermuda’s re/insurers have supported the local economy through significant spending on business services, construction, and real estate. In 2024, ABIR companies spent US$117.4 million on business services and US$99.4 million on construction and real estate, reinforcing the sector’s broader economic impact.
