Fortitude Reinsurance Company Ltd. has renewed its long-standing partnership with the Bermuda Education Network (BEN) through a $150,000 donation, continuing its support for local education under the Fortitude Re 4 Good community partnership program.
The contribution will fund BEN’s educational initiatives, including the Fortitude Re Summer Reading Program, which provides primary-level students with additional academic support and enrichment activities during the school break. The nonprofit designs locally relevant curriculum and professional development programs for teachers and students across Bermuda.
According to Fortitude Re, the company’s collaboration with BEN in 2025 reached 47 students, with 98 % demonstrating measurable learning gains. The latest donation builds on those results and maintains the company’s commitment to helping students achieve reading proficiency and stronger educational outcomes.
Amanda Stewart, senior vice president of employee experience and leader of Fortitude Re 4 Good, said the company believes education is central to community development and that equitable access to learning opportunities helps children reach their potential.
“Our partnership with the Bermuda Education Network reflects our commitment to helping every child reach their potential by ensuring equitable access to quality learning opportunities,” said Stewart. “By investing in youth literacy, we’re investing in Bermuda’s future.”
BEN founder Becky Ausenda said Fortitude Re’s continued involvement allows the organization to deliver high-quality summer programs that move a significant number of struggling young readers to proficiency each year.
“Their generous support allows us to provide a high-quality and transformative summer intervention, which year after year moves a significant number of eight-year-old students who are struggling with reading to proficiency and builds the foundation for future education success,” Ausenda said.
The partnership is part of Fortitude Re 4 Good, which focuses on long-term community programs promoting learning, sustainability, and local impact. Fortitude Re said it views education as a foundation for growth within the community.
Fortitude Re also recently contributed $50,000 to the Bermuda Zoological Society to support environmental education programs, including “Kids on the Reef” and other field-based learning activities. The company said the funds will be used to expand hands-on conservation experiences for students.
Headquartered in Bermuda, Fortitude Re provides reinsurance solutions with $105 billion in total assets as of Dec. 31, 2024. The reinsurer is backed by investors including Carlyle Group and T&D Insurance Group and employs professionals across multiple markets.
