The Canadian Association of Managing General Agents (CAMGA) will work with Patrick Ballantyne (pictured) as a consultant on regulatory and compliance matters for managing general agents (MGAs) in Canada.

Ballantyne will provide policy analysis, regulatory guidance and strategic advice to CAMGA and its board of directors. His responsibilities will include advising on standards of conduct and financial requirements, contributing to CAMGA's jurisdictional review, and assisting in the preparation of a White Paper to support discussions with regulators across the country.

Ballantyne previously served as chief executive officer of The Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) and spent 10 years as RIBO's general counsel. He also served as chair of the Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations (CISRO).

The initiative is part of CAMGA's ongoing work to participate in regulatory discussions for MGAs nationwide. The move is expected to influence the Canadian MGA market by providing clearer regulatory guidance, supporting greater consistency in compliance standards, and potentially enhancing confidence among insurers, brokers, and clients in the sector.

Commenting on the move, Ballantyne said he is pleased to be working with CAMGA on a project that is timely and meaningful for the future of the MGA channel in Canada and looks forward to collaborating with CAMGA and its members as they advance this work.

Pete Tessier, president of CAMGA, said the initiative reflects CAMGA's commitment to leadership that strengthens the MGA sector. He added that Ballantyne brings extensive regulatory and policy expertise and that CAMGA is supporting efforts to create greater consistency and confidence across the industry.

Brett Broadway, executive director of CAMGA, said the work ahead is significant and that Ballantyne's involvement will contribute meaningfully to member discussions. He noted that CAMGA members have been calling for leadership on this file and that Ballantyne's contribution represents a major milestone in that efforts.
