The Canadian Association of Managing General Agents (CAMGA) has appointed Brett Boadway as its new executive director, succeeding Steve Masnyk, who will step down at the end of September.

Boadway, currently chief operating officer of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO), will leave the broker association on Sept. 26 and assume her new role at CAMGA on Oct. 1. She has spent more than 12 years with IBAO, beginning as director of communications and broker relations before moving into senior leadership.

With over 15 years of experience in association management, Boadway has led initiatives in governance, education development, advocacy, and technology advancement. CAMGA’s board of directors said her expertise aligns closely with the association’s priorities, including strengthening member benefits and deepening engagement with industry partners.

Her appointment follows a search process conducted by a CAMGA committee with the support of an external advisor. The board unanimously endorsed her selection, noting that the association is at “a pivotal point in its evolution.”

CAMGA president Pete Tessier said Boadway brings the right mix of skills and industry relationships to guide the association through a period of significant change in the insurance sector.

“Brett is exactly the leader CAMGA needs as it evolves from its founding roots into a modern, influential organization,” Tessier said.

Boadway said she sees managing general agents as a vital part of the commercial and specialty insurance ecosystem.

“Now is our time to work together to create an organization that stands as a trusted beacon within it,” she said.

Masnyk, who has led CAMGA since October 2020, played a key role in expanding membership to include 80% of Canadian MGAs and in strengthening the association’s profile with regulators, governments, and market partners. He called Boadway “someone with a stellar reputation in leading one of the largest insurance trade groups in Canada, someone who will continue advancing the value CAMGA brings to its members and all those who trade with MGAs.”

Founded in 2017, CAMGA represents the majority of managing general agents in Canada and works with more than 40 insurance capacity providers. The association serves as the voice of the delegated authority sector, advocating at the federal and provincial levels and across the brokerage and insurer communities.
