Allianz Commercial has appointed Peter Toole (pictured) as its new head of marine for Canada, effective September 29. Based in Toronto, Toole will report to Keith Scranton, regional head of inland marine, North America.

Toole brings 19 years of experience in the insurance industry, with a strong background in senior underwriting and brokerage roles, particularly in construction insurance. He most recently served as vice president of construction at FCA Insurance Brokers, following his tenure as vice president and insurance practice leader at Petrela, Winter & Associates.

“Peter is a highly regarded professional with deep expertise and well-established relationships across the brokerage community,” said Scranton. “As Allianz Commercial continues to expand its footprint in North America, Peter’s industry knowledge and network will play a critical role in driving our continued growth and success.”

The appointment follows Allianz Commercial’s restructuring of its global commercial operations earlier this year. Under the new structure, its businesses in Canada, the United States, and Bermuda have been consolidated under the North America region, designed to deliver more consistent solutions across markets while maintaining local expertise.

The restructuring aims to enhance clarity and efficiency for clients and brokers, aligning with the company’s goal of providing seamless cross-regional service.

In Canada, Allianz Commercial’s portfolio includes inland marine, cargo, and marine hull & liability, providing coverage for a range of marine and shipping projects of varying scale and complexity.

Allianz stated in a report that its marine and inland marine appetite in Canada remains broad, covering a range of specialized sectors. The insurer offers capacity of up to $100 million for project cargo, $30 million for global cargo, and substantial limits across inland marine lines such as motor truck cargo and rolling stock.
