Sun Life Singapore unveils first social impact report

Life & Health

Sun Life Singapore has issued its first Social Impact Report, Making Lives Brighter, summarising its community initiatives in 2024 and setting out plans for the year ahead.

The publication covers work in diabetes prevention, mental health, and promoting active lifestyles, conducted in collaboration with social service partners.

The company reported contributing over S$1.2 million to community programmes in Singapore since its local launch in 2020.

In 2025, it will broaden its activities to include projects aimed at building financial literacy and resilience, with a goal of assisting more than 42,000 individuals.

Embedding philanthropy in insurance products

A central element of Sun Life Singapore’s giving strategy is the Sun Life Singapore Philanthropic Pledge, launched in 2023 alongside Community Chest.

Under the initiative, 0.5% of premiums from selected SunBrilliance life insurance products are donated to charities, up to US$20,000 per policy.

The pledge, which started with the Indexed Universal Life plan, was extended to Whole Life in 2024 and a second Indexed Universal Life product in mid-2025.

“Life is Brighter” fund to widen support

The “Life is Brighter” charity fund, introduced in September 2024, pools contributions from the pledge, corporate donations, and fundraising events.

It will direct resources not only to health programmes but also to financial education projects in 2025.

The insurer anticipates raising over S$700,000 for the fund this year.

Maintaining focus on health priorities

Health-related initiatives will remain a major focus.

Sun Life Singapore will continue its partnerships with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the Singapore Association for Mental Health, TOUCH Community Services, and Limitless.

New projects include a comprehensive screening programme for children newly diagnosed with diabetes and their unaffected siblings, aimed at early identification of those at higher risk.

The Lite Programme, run with KK Hospital to support families managing childhood obesity, will also continue through 2027.

Introducing financial literacy programmes

To address growing concerns over household financial well-being, Sun Life Singapore and Community Chest will launch initiatives designed to improve money management skills and resilience.

These will include employment assistance measures for lower-income families.

Youth engagement through sport

The insurer’s Hoops + Health initiative, which promotes exercise through basketball, is active in six Asian markets and aims to reach 45,000 people by the end of 2025.

In Singapore, more than 800 young participants are expected to benefit this year through trained coaches and community events.

Parent company reports Q2 results

The launch of the social impact report follows Sun Life Financial Inc’s announcement of second-quarter 2025 earnings.

Underlying net income rose 2% year-on-year to C$1.02 billion, aided by growth in the Group – Health & Protection segment.

Assets under management climbed 5% to C$1.54 trillion.
