Sun Life recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) with a ceremonial ringing of the opening bell. The event was attended by executives from Sun Life and PSE, alongside key stakeholders.

Sun Life executives present at the ceremony included Manjit Singh, president of Sun Life Asia; David Broom, chief client and distribution officer of Sun Life Asia; Benedict Sison, CEO and country head of Sun Life Philippines; JJ Moreno, president of Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc.; and Michael Enriquez, president of Sun Life Investment Management and Trust Corporation.

Representatives from the PSE included Ramon Monzon, president and CEO; Atty. Roel Refran, chief operating officer; Atty. Marigel Baniqued-Garcia, issuer regulation division head; and Atty. Veronica Del Rosario, general counsel.

In his address, Singh stated, “Not only are we celebrating our 25th year in the Philippine Stock Exchange, but we are also celebrating 130 years of being in the Philippines. We began from very humble beginnings in a small Canadian town, but over the last hundred years, we grew to be among global powerhouses in the financial industry; and this is mainly because of our purpose, which is to help our clients live brighter lives through financial security.”

Monzon added, “Sun Life’s 25-year journey in the local stock market, backed by a solid 130-year existence in the country, is a testament to its unwavering commitment to the country, its clients, and its stakeholders. On its silver anniversary, we wish Sun Life more years as a successful publicly listed company.”

At 9:30 am, Singh and Monzon rang the PSE bells to signify the start of the trading day and commemorate Sun Life’s milestone.

Since its initial listing in 2000, Sun Life has contributed to financial literacy programs and social responsibility initiatives in the Philippines, a news release noted. The bell-ringing ceremony highlighted its continued engagement in the country’s financial landscape.

The tradition of ringing the bell is a symbolic gesture observed across global stock exchanges. It signifies not only the start of daily trading but also marks milestones, including anniversaries and new listings.
