Coversure Network turns employees into owners again as Teddington branch changes hands

Mergers & Acquisitions

Two senior brokers at Coversure Teddington have acquired the branch's book of business from retiring franchisee Philip Macdonald, in a succession that underlines the Coversure Network's model of converting experienced employees into owners.

Mel Franke and Ciara Curran, who have been with the brokerage for nine and seven years respectively, take charge of a branch with roots stretching back to 1978 – first as Scots Insurance Consultants, a name it carried for nearly four decades before joining Coversure in 2016.

Franke's connection to the branch predates even that affiliation. She joined in 2015, a year before the office came under the Coversure umbrella, making her one of the few people to have served the book under both its identities. Curran followed two years later.

"Ciara and I are incredibly proud to be taking on the Coversure Teddington book," Franke said. "Having worked within the operation for several years, we've built strong relationships with our customers and understand what makes this book so special."

A network built on internal succession

The transition is one of several ownership developments across the Coversure Network in early 2026.

The network recorded its 10th new office opening of the financial year in January with the launch of a Canary Wharf branch led by Justin Fevrier – a broker who began his career at a Coversure operation before returning to establish his own office under the brand – bringing the UK footprint to more than 90 locations.

Network director Jordan Maskel said the model is designed to offer "national buying power with independent, local expertise." He added that supporting internal transitions "helps protect the continuity of service for Coversure customers while keeping knowledge, experience, and relationships exactly where they belong."

Coversure is part of the Jensten Group, which provides its network of franchisees with access to more than £650 million in collective GWP buying power and specialist placement capacity, including at Lloyd's of London - a credential that Franke and Curran's clients will retain under the new ownership.

Scale behind the brand

In March 2024 - in what was at the time a record for the network - Coversure disclosed monthly GWP of £12.2 million, driven in part by a new cohort of franchisees. While that figure is now two years old, it offers a useful order-of-magnitude reference for a network that has continued expanding since.

Teddington itself serves local businesses, tradespeople, shop owners, and landlords, and both new owners are embedded in the wider community: Franke and Curran are active in Teddington Together, a volunteer-run organisation of local businesses, per a local community profile of the branch.

"Stepping into ownership is a natural next step for us," Franke said, "and we're grateful for the backing and guidance the Coversure Network provides."
