Insurance broker and financial adviser Lycetts has announced a series of senior promotions aimed at supporting its growth strategy and reinforcing leadership across its UK operations.
The firm said the appointments will help it remain agile and responsive to evolving client and market needs.
Among the changes, Simon Aitken (pictured above, left) has been named head of office for general insurance in Newcastle, and Cristina Ion (pictured above, right) has been appointed head of office in Edinburgh.
They are joined by Dorothy Pigg, who becomes chair of the commercial leadership group, and Toby Heathcoat Amory, who takes on the role of chair of the household and private client leadership group. Between them, Pigg and Heathcoat Amory have more than 25 years' experience at Lycetts, adding continuity and depth to the leadership team.
In addition, the firm has created a new role of chief of staff, appointing Gill Teasdale to the position.
Chief executive Ian Barclay said the promotions highlight the strength of Lycetts’ internal talent pool and its commitment to employee development. He noted that creating new positions alongside recognising existing staff would help the firm meet the challenges of a fast-changing market while continuing to grow and innovate.
The leadership changes also reflect Lycetts’ emphasis on maintaining high levels of client service. Aitken said his focus in Newcastle would be on building on the existing team’s capabilities to deliver strong advice and support to clients, while Ion highlighted the opportunities for further development across the Edinburgh office and beyond. Teasdale described the new chief of staff role as an opportunity to enhance alignment across the business as Lycetts pursues its strategic ambitions.
Appointments amid heightened competition
Lycetts’ announcement comes at a time of heightened competition in the UK broking market, where independent firms are under pressure from large consolidators and private equity-backed intermediaries. Many smaller and mid-sized brokers have responded by strengthening internal leadership, investing in technology, and emphasising client-focused service models to differentiate themselves.
At the same time, insurers and brokers alike are navigating a challenging market environment marked by changing regulation, ongoing cost pressures, and rising client expectations.
For firms such as Lycetts, building strong leadership teams is seen as key to sustaining growth and protecting their independent identity in an industry where scale increasingly matters.
Lycetts, part of the Benefact Group, is one of the UK’s leading independently operated insurance brokers, specialising in farm and estate, commercial, household and equine insurance, as well as financial services advice.
