Liberty Specialty Markets operates in Europe, with products spanning more than 20 lines of business, and maintains offices in seven countries. Weigel’s responsibilities include developing scalable foundations and processes to support the multinational programme, which the company says is a central part of its Invest in Europe 2030 strategy.
The Invest in Europe 2030 strategy seeks to strengthen Liberty’s multinational programme capability, drive digitisation and the use of artificial intelligence in underwriting and claims, and expand the company’s geographic reach. The strategy also includes launching specialised products tailored to the needs of partners in the region.
Weigel will work closely with distribution, underwriting, operations, and claims teams to implement the multinational strategy and support Liberty’s growth objectives in Europe. Her role is designed to facilitate collaboration across these functions as the company pursues its expansion plans.
Weigel has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry and in multinational business. She previously spent 19 years at Zurich Insurance, most recently serving as international business underwriting manager for commercial insurance.
Pierre Edouard-Fraigneau, president of Liberty International Insurance Europe, commented on the appointment, saying, “We are delighted that Alexandra has joined Liberty. Her appointment comes at a pivotal moment as we widen the scope of our multinational offering across our key products in Europe.”
He added that Weigel’s experience in insurance and multinational programmes, as well as her ability to foster teams, will be important in leading the multinational strategy.
In addition to the multinational expansion, Liberty Specialty Markets recently unified its UK and Middle East & North Africa (MENA) third-party operations. The company formed a single integrated division that consolidates its financial and professional (FinPro) and casualty portfolios.
Liberty Specialty Markets has also announced its entry into the UK high net worth (HNW) market. The company appointed Benjamin Faerestrand as UK HNW household underwriter to lead the new venture. LSM plans to build a Lloyd’s-based proposition for the HNW segment, delivered through both open market and delegated authority channels.
In July, Liberty Specialty Markets launched a new insurance product for financial institutions involved in the cryptocurrency sector. The product targets crypto-asset service providers operating under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, offering coverage for professional liability, management errors, theft, and fraud, with limits up to €3 million.
