Clear Group has signed the UK Armed Forces Covenant, formalising its support for serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families.
The insurance intermediary said that it joins as a growing number of businesses continue to pledge to ensure fair treatment for members of the armed forces community in the workplace and wider society.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a voluntary agreement that encourages organisations to recognise the sacrifices made by service members and to provide equal opportunities for those who have served. Clear Group employs several individuals with military backgrounds, including Mike Edgeley, Oscar Holloway, and Simon Smith, who have transitioned into commercial roles within the company
Simon Smith (pictured above), group chief operating officer at Clear Group, said he served in the military both before and after university and continues to serve as a Military Reservist.
“I believe the Armed Forces Community aligns with our Clear culture and values; supporting your village, town or country and helping others throughout the community is part of who we are at the Clear Group,” Smith said. He added that the covenant reflects the company’s commitment to the Armed Forces Community and demonstrates how it values people and their families, contributing to UK national defence.
By signing the Covenant, Clear Group said that it is reinforcing its commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace, ensuring that veterans and reservists have opportunities to thrive and continue making a difference beyond their military service.
Clear Group joins a growing list of insurance sector organisations that have pledged their support through the Armed Forces Covenant. Notably, RSA Insurance (now rebranded as Intact) signed the Covenant in January 2023, launching an Armed Forces Employee Resource Group and committing to policies and practices that support serving personnel, veterans, and their families. RSA’s initiative included internal policy development, recruitment guidance, and ongoing support for Armed Forces-affiliated colleagues, demonstrating the insurance industry’s recognition of the value and skills that military experience brings to the workplace.
Other insurers and financial services firms are also among the thousands of UK organisations listed as signatories, reflecting a sector-wide commitment to inclusivity and fair treatment for the Armed Forces community.
Alongside its commitment to the Armed Forces community, Clear Group continues to expand its operations internationally. Earlier this month, the company completed the integration of Phelan Caswell Insurances into Clear Insurance Ireland, following an acquisition that included financial planning assets.
This move strengthens Clear’s market reach and operational scale in Ireland, with managing director Mark Phelan and his team joining the group.
In August, Clear Group appointed Barbara Duffy as group chief people & performance officer, bringing experience from IG Group and other major firms. Duffy is responsible for driving talent, capability, and organisational development, while Victoria Gallimore’s expanded role as group chief of staff supports strategic initiatives and operational alignment across the business.
