Tysers has appointed Laurence Upton (pictured above) as director of its marine and aviation division. Upton will be responsible for developing the company’s London market facultative solutions within the reinsurance division, with a focus on expanding client offerings.
Upton brings more than 20 years of experience to the role. He most recently served as chief broking officer at Castel Underwriting Agency and has previously led the hybrid solutions team at Guy Carpenter and was head of London facultative at Willis Towers Watson.
Chris Tansley, chairman of wholesale broking at Tysers, commented on the appointment. “He has a great reputation in the market and a proven track record of driving growth while delivering exceptional client service. Laurence will add a new and exciting dimension to Tysers,” Tansley said.
“I am delighted to be joining Tysers as a director, working with Chris and the team to drive the strategic growth of our Facultative Reinsurance offering. My focus will be on creating effective Solutions that protect Tysers’ core clients and maximise our market leverage. I very much look forward to reconnecting with friends and clients alike,” Upton said.
Earlier this year, Tysers announced the return of Vicky Ivanova to lead its US casualty and healthcare business. Ivanova is tasked with overseeing the strategic expansion of these practices and managing client relationships across both sectors.
Tysers has also made changes in its Middle East operations. In July, the firm appointed Amin Basbous as senior executive officer for its Dubai office. Basbous, who has held several positions at Tysers, will oversee the Dubai office’s operations and lead efforts to further develop the company’s presence in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Last month, Tysers also entered into a strategic partnership with Istanbul-based Rönesans Reinsurance & Insurance Brokerage, taking an equity stake in the company. The partnership is designed to provide coverage and place risks in both local and international markets, giving Tysers a foothold in Türkiye’s growing re/insurance sector and expanding its reach in Central Europe.
