Swiss Re and Wysa have expanded their digital mental health initiative, Wysa Assure, to insurance policyholders across three continents. The app, which launched in 2023, integrates artificial intelligence and mental health support to promote early intervention and preventive care among users.
The initiative merges Swiss Re’s risk expertise and proprietary risk scoring system with Wysa’s AI-based chatbot, which uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles. Designed to provide policyholders with on-demand emotional support, Wysa Assure offers self-guided mental health resources and clinically validated modules.
Swiss Re and Wysa first collaborated with Australian life insurer Ascenda, whose adoption of the app led to notable recognition: Ascenda recently won the Health & Wellness award for Wysa Assure in both the Group and Individual Life categories at the Financial Standard Industry Service Award – Life Insurance 2025. Following the success of this partnership, Wysa Assure has since been integrated into various insurance ecosystems globally, including MassMutual in the United States, Eagle Insurance in Mauritius, and Momentum in South Africa.
According to Swiss Re, each partnership reflects a broader industry trend where insurers are enhancing customer engagement through proactive health management tools. By helping policyholders access mental health support early, the app aims to reduce the risk of symptom escalation while potentially lowering claims-related costs for insurers.
Swiss Re highlighted its recent partnership with Momentum in South Africa to demonstrate the program’s impact. Momentum offers Wysa through its Multiply Rewards Programme, making mental health support available to all policyholders. Research shows that one in three South Africans have experienced a common mental disorder in their lifetime, underscoring the need for accessible psychological support tools.
“Complete health calls for more than physical care - it’s also dependent on sleep, human connection, and mental wellbeing. Our partnership with Wysa enables our members to manage their mental health in a new way with effective and accessible mental health resources, ensuring holistic care,” said Maria Pouroullis Carpenter, head of Momentum Multiply.
It was noted that integrating Wysa into its rewards program helps “destigmatize mental health conditions” within the local market.
