SiriusPoint Ltd., a global specialty insurer and reinsurer, has announced the appointment of John Sakakeeny (pictured) as chief underwriting officer of North America P&C Insurance, effective February 2, 2026.
Sakakeeny will report directly to SiriusPoint head of North America insurance Patrick Charles and group chief underwriting officer Anthony Shapella.
In this newly created role, he will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the underwriting and program management teams across SiriusPoint’s North America Insurance business.
His mandate includes driving profitable growth and significantly strengthening technical underwriting capabilities as the company continues its trajectory of expansion.
Sakakeeny brings 20 years of industry experience to the position, joining SiriusPoint from The Hartford, where he was most recently vice president and head of casualty product, middle and large commercial.
Charles said Sakakeeny’s deep technical expertise and demonstrated leadership would be instrumental in strengthening underwriting across North America while supporting profitable growth.
"In this role, John will act as the steward of technical authority for property and casualty products and will serve as a key liaison to the group chief underwriting office on strategic capital allocation."
Shapella said Sakakeeny’s role is focused on embedding deeper underwriting expertise within the North America Insurance division.
"Following a significant growth and build phase over the past two years, SiriusPoint has reached a level of scale that requires dedicated leadership to bolster product development and enhance MGA oversight."
The appointment is a key component of the firm's wider strategy to enhance its market position and diversify its portfolio.
The company continues to pursue growth in its core segments, a strategy highlighted when SiriusPoint reported strong performance last year, driven by disciplined underwriting and strategic investments.
The appointment comes at a time of positive momentum for the firm, which has been actively refining its leadership structure to support these goals.
Commenting on his appointment, Sakakeeny said he is joining SiriusPoint at an exciting and pivotal moment in the company’s journey.
"I look forward to working closely with the North America team and the Group Chief Underwriting Office to help drive growth, strengthen our capabilities, and deliver impactful solutions for our clients and partners,” he said.
