SCOR has appointed Kelvin Medina (pictured above) as global head of reinsurance and MGA operations. Medina steps into the role after nearly nine years with the company, most recently serving as head of portfolio risk operations for the Americas.

Based in the New York City metropolitan area, he is now responsible for developing operational strategies and solutions to support the ambitions of SCOR’s reinsurance and MGA (program business and syndicate) operations. He is also a member of the property and casualty operations leadership team.

In his previous position, Medina led SCOR’s portfolio risk operations for the Americas from July 2023. His responsibilities included maintaining existing operations and processes while introducing a strategic vision for delivering capabilities, processes, and interactions more effectively.

Before that, Medina was vice president for North America portfolio risk operations in specialty insurance from October 2020 to July 2023. He developed strategic operations plans covering people, process, and technology objectives to drive efficiency and operational excellence.

Medina’s earlier experience includes roles at Liberty International Underwriters, where he served as program manager and project lead, as well as operations manager and lead business analyst.

He also worked at AIG for nearly five years, managing software development life cycles for policy administration applications and leading initiatives to improve operational efficiencies. His career began as a business analyst at the New York City Department of Probations.

Medina holds a BBA in computer information systems from Baruch College. He has earned several industry certifications, including Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Certified Program Leader (CPL), Project Management Professional (PMP), Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI), and Associate in Insurance Services (AIS).

“Gratitude overflows for the unwavering support that has sculpted my professional journey and the exceptional team I am privileged to collaborate with daily. Anticipating new horizons filled with exciting challenges and the opportunity to partner with remarkable individuals in propelling our company's vision to greater heights,” Medina said in his LinkedIn post.

SCOR has also made other recent leadership changes. In April, the company named Philipp Rüede as CEO of its life and health division. This appointment followed a strategic overhaul of the segment after significant losses in the previous year, with Rüede taking over to guide the division through its realignment and future growth.

Another recent appointment includes Holger Schaefer, who was named global head of casualty and environmental impairment liability (EIL) at SCOR Business Solutions, effective March. Schaefer joined from Allianz Group, bringing 35 years of experience in underwriting and sales.
