Specialty re/insurance MGA Rokstone has appointed Kamil Mammadov as head of short tail lines for its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) platform, pending regulatory approval.
Mammadov will report to Giles Hussey, who was named head of Rokstone DIFC last month. The appointment follows Rokstone’s entry into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market in 2023 as part of the firm’s international expansion strategy.
After a stint at Qatar Re, Mammadov joined Sukoon Insurance Company (formerly Oman Insurance) as head of property. At Sukoon, he oversaw a property portfolio with gross written premiums totaling US$250 million during his six-year tenure.
Mammadov is expected to begin his new role after completing his notice period.
Rokstone DIFC is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and provides a variety of specialty insurance solutions, supported by A-rated capacity from established carrier partners.
Rokstone noted that the Dubai office aims to capture business from the MENA region that previously bypassed London markets, extending its services to regional insurers that lack access to Rokstone’s distribution network in London.
Ian Anson, Global CEO of Rokstone, said Mammadov's experience in specialty lines, particularly in short tail classes, will enhance the DIFC operation and contribute to the company’s efforts to maintain a balanced portfolio.
In April, Rokstone also announced the appointment of Eddie Hughes as its new head of specialty reinsurance. Hughes brings nearly 20 years of industry experience to the role. He joins Rokstone from Antares Managing Agency Ltd, where he served as head of reinsurance.
