Munich Re has appointed Sabine Starbatty (pictured above) as client management executive (CME) for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Starbatty will also continue to serve as head of treaty underwriting P&C MENA & Cyber, maintaining dual responsibilities within the company.
Starbatty has led the non-life client management team for MENA on an interim basis since September. She is based in Munich and reports to Roland Eckl, chief executive for Munich Re Australasia, Greater China, MENA, and Africa.
Starbatty brings more than two decades of experience at Munich Re, holding roles in property and treaty underwriting across multiple regions. Since this month, she has served as head of non-life mena and cyber for Australia/New Zealand, Greater China, and Africa. She previously held the role of chief underwriting officer (CUO) for P&c treaty MENA and cyber in various regions, including Greater China, Australia/New Zealand, and South Africa.
From August 2022 to May this year, Starbatty was head of insurance related solutions property for the UK and Nordics, managing a property portfolio that included MGA business, co-insurance, proportional deals, and long-tail engineering and IDI accounts.
Her earlier experience includes serving as senior corporate underwriter from 2020 to 2022, where she worked on emerging topics in property treaty underwriting and quality assurance for major property treaties.
Starbatty began her career at Munich Re as a graduate trainee from 2001 to 2003, focusing on property treaty for UK global clients.
Munich Re also made recent leadership changes in other regions. Hanh Nguyen was appointed as head of treaty P&C underwriting for Southeast Asia and India, effective March. Nguyen, who will be based in Munich, brings 19 years of reinsurance experience and previously served as deputy head of treaty P&C underwriting for Southeast Asia and India.
In addition, Munich Re named Christa Schwimmer as chief executive for its specialty reinsurance and Lloyd’s and Bermuda operations. Schwimmer, a Munich Re veteran of more than two decades, stepped into the role after serving as senior executive manager for the Lloyd’s and Bermuda businesses.
