With over 35 years in reinsurance and underwriting, Jim Franson is stepping into a new phase of his career as he takes on the newly created role of North America chairman at Lockton Re, LLC, the reinsurance division of Lockton Companies.
Lockton Re announced the appointment as part of its organizational changes to support the expansion of its team and client activity in North America. The newly created position aims to reinforce leadership capacity within the region.
Franson most recently served as president of Validus Re US, where he led efforts to build a property and casualty treaty portfolio. Before that, he was chief underwriting officer at Arch Reinsurance Company, where he helped develop the company’s reinsurance operations in the United States.
Franson described his move to Lockton Re as an important step in his professional path. “What makes this team so compelling to colleagues and clients is its fresh, forward-looking take on reinsurance broking, consistently creating value for clients.”
He began his career as a broker, working with Marsh and Aon in multiple locations including New York, London, and Washington, DC, holding a variety of positions during his tenure at both firms. His background includes experience across both sides of the (re)insurance value chain.
“Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate to work with some very talented people, and this new role continues that trend," Franson said.
According to Lockton Re North America CEO Nick Durant, Franson’s leadership background, familiarity with reinsurance markets, and professional standing in the industry led to his selection for the role.
“The creation of his role is a direct result of the incredible acceleration in the scope and size of our team,” said Durant.
Tim Gardner, global CEO of Lockton Re, said the company continues to grow its capabilities and that Franson will contribute to its ability to deliver risk transfer solutions that align with client objectives.
“[Franson’s] deep experience in the global reinsurance market will further strengthen our ability to deliver unique perspectives and distinct risk transfer solutions tailored to our clients' business objectives, and we are delighted to welcome him to Lockton Re,” said Gardner.
