Hannover Re has named Kantaporn Thejatunga (pictured above) as general manager of life and health at its Malaysian branch in Kuala Lumpur, effective this month.
Thejatunga will oversee life & health operations in Malaysia and lead expansion efforts in Southeast Asian markets, including Thailand and Vietnam. The company stated that the life and health team is focused on building long-term partnerships, adapting to evolving client needs, and supporting sustainable growth in the region.
Thejatunga joined Hannover Re in 2018 as a business development actuary for the Thai market. She previously worked as a pricing actuary at Muang Thai Life Assurance Public Company Limited in Bangkok.
Her academic background includes a bachelor of science in actuarial science from both Mahidol University and Curtin University. She succeeds Soeren Kruse, who was appointed head of life and health Southern & Eastern Asia earlier this year.
Hannover Re said that it continues to focus on strengthening its position in Southeast Asia’s life and health insurance sector through leadership appointments and regional market development, while also reinforcing its capabilities in other international markets.
The appointment comes as Hannover Re continues to report robust financial performance in 2025. For the first half of the year, the reinsurer posted a net income of €960 million, up from €960 million in the same period last year, despite absorbing €738 million in large loss expenditures from natural catastrophes and man-made events.
Gross written premium rose by 7.6% to €19.3 billion, reflecting steady demand for reinsurance solutions and the company’s diversified global portfolio.
“We are well on track to achieve our full-year targets despite the challenging claims environment,” said Hannover Re CEO Jean-Jacques Henchoz. The company credited its disciplined underwriting and prudent reserving for its ability to maintain profitability amid ongoing market volatility.
Hannover Re has also made additional leadership moves this year as part of its broader international strategy. In France, the company appointed Vincent Hermenier as managing director of its French subsidiary.
