Conduit Re welcomed participants from the 2025 Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies (BFIS) Intro-to-Insurance Summer Intern Program for an afternoon of presentations and discussions focused on career opportunities in Bermuda’s reinsurance sector.

The program, which has been running for several years, provides structured internships in Bermuda, London, and Chicago. Interns participate in a two- to three-week curriculum designed to offer a foundational understanding of the reinsurance business.

Student selection is based on a competitive application process that includes essay submissions and completion of introductory courses such as Insurance Essentials through The Institutes CPCU Society.

Seven students selected by BFIS, along with two of Conduit Re’s summer interns, took part in a series of presentations delivered by staff across various departments. Speakers represented areas including underwriting, actuarial science, risk management, finance, claims, operations, IT, legal, compliance, and human resources.

The program aims to prepare undergraduate students for careers in Bermuda’s insurance industry. Each year, four groups of four Bermudian students are selected to participate in the summer placements. Travel, accommodation, and daily expenses are covered by BFIS, and each participant receives a stipend.

According to BFIS, the initiative is intended to help students build a broad perspective of the insurance sector and explore professional pathways within it.

Conduit Re has made environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles a core part of its operational framework since its inception. The company noted that it emphasizes responsible risk-taking and sustainable business practices in its underwriting and investment strategies.

In other developments, CHL, Conduit Re’s parent company, also recently issued its trading update for the first quarter of 2025, a period marked by several significant insured catastrophe events across the industry.

Notably, the California wildfires resulted in widespread damage throughout the Los Angeles region. The company’s estimated ultimate net loss for the event remains between US$100 million and US$140 million, net of reinsurance and reinstatement premiums.
