Chedid Re has announced that Claude Kassab (pictured above) has rejoined the company as head of Asia-Pacific (APAC).
Kassab will oversee both facultative and treaty business operations across the region, bringing more than 25 years of experience in the reinsurance sector, with a background spanning the Middle East and London markets.
Kassab most recently served as divisional director and head of life and health at United Insurance Brokers Limited from May 2022 to September this year. Prior to that, he was associate director for medical and life business at UIB Insurance Brokers SA in London from September 2015 to May 2022.
His earlier roles include medical and life treaty manager at Chedid Re in Lebanon, manager for life and accident, account executive at Aon ME, and assistant director at Caisse Mutuelle Laique.
Kassab holds a degree from USEK, completed in 2003. His appointment is expected to further strengthen Chedid Re’s presence and capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
In July last year, Chedid Re appointed Vincent Vandendael as an independent non-executive director. The company stated that this appointment is part of a broader effort to reinforce its global corporate governance framework as it continues to expand into major insurance, financial, and regulatory hubs around the world.
Vandendael brings over 30 years of experience in developed and emerging markets, including New York, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and London. Chedid Re’s network includes more than 400 experts and over 400 insurance companies across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
Over the past few years, Chedid Re has opened an office in Abidjan, launched a Paris office, established regional headquarters in Saudi Arabia, and set up a new UAE hub office in the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC).
Chedid Re’s recent growth aligns with broader trends in the Middle East insurance and reinsurance market, which is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 8% through 2028.
