Chariot Re has appointed Reena Pally (pictured above) as chief investment officer, effective Sept. 1.
The Bermuda-based life and annuity reinsurer, which began operations this year, said the appointment is part of its ongoing strategy to expand its executive leadership team and investment capabilities.
Chariot Re launched from Bermuda with co-sponsorship from MetLife and General Atlantic, entering the market as a new player focused on life and annuity reinsurance. The company’s leadership, including chairman and CEO Cynthia Smith, has emphasized a strategy centered on building executive depth and leveraging investment expertise to serve clients in the global reinsurance sector.
Smith noted that the addition of Pally is consistent with this approach and supports the company’s growth objectives.
“Reena brings a deep understanding of the markets and a proven track record in developing and executing investment strategies. She will play an important role in enabling us to deliver value to our clients and stakeholders,” Smith said.
Pally joins Chariot Re after more than 11 years at MetLife Investment Management, where she most recently served as managing director and portfolio manager in the real estate group. In that capacity, she was responsible for MetLife Insurance Investors’ commercial mortgage portfolio within the debt strategies group.
Her earlier roles at MetLife included chief of staff to the chief investment officer, director of middle market leveraged finance, and director of corporate distressed investments. She also worked as a trader and assistant portfolio manager for a multi-billion dollar leveraged loan portfolio.
Pally holds an MBA in finance from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in finance and international business from New York University’s Stern School of Business. She is also an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association.
The reinsurance sector is seeing increased issuance of catastrophe bonds and alternative capital inflows, trends that are shaping the risk transfer landscape for both established and new market entrants. This environment provides companies like Chariot Re with additional flexibility in managing risk and structuring innovative solutions for clients.
