Canopius, a leading international specialty and P&C re/insurer, has announced the immediate appointment of Victoria Baxter as head of property treaty in London.
In her new role, Baxter will spearhead the property treaty business in London, working closely with Canopius’s underwriting hubs in Bermuda and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to ensure global alignment.
She brings more than two decades of London Market underwriting experience to the position, with a deep understanding of complex risks ranging from single-state mutual companies to clients with worldwide exposure.
Her appointment reinforces London's role as Canopius's home base for managing US and Canadian exposed accounts, as well as its international and engineering portfolios.
Under her leadership, the London team will continue trading via the wholesale broker channel, offering per-risk, property catastrophe, proportional, and construction treaty reinsurance.
Baxter joined Canopius in 2019 following the business’s acquisition of AmTrust.
After serving three years as a reinsurance underwriter within the team, she was promoted to head of US property treaty in 2022.
She will now report to Rachel Webber, who Canopius recently appointed to lead its UK reinsurance expansion starting in February 2026.
The appointment is part of Canopius’s ongoing investment into its rapidly growing reinsurance division, which is expanding its footprint across London, Bermuda, Singapore, and Sydney.
The division has been a bright spot for the company, seeing gross premiums written increase by 53% in the recent financial year, alongside a 44% jump in net earned premiums. This overarching growth strategy is also supported at the highest levels of the company, following Canopius's move to name three independent NEDs in a board succession move.
Charles Cooper, global head of reinsurance at Canopius, praised Baxter’s progression within the firm. “It’s been fantastic to see Vicky develop into a leader here at Canopius,” Cooper said.
“She embodies much of what we’re aiming to offer our reinsurance clients and partners: she brings great underwriting experience to the role, and she has a clear focus on client and broker relationships.”
He added that Canopius will continue to invest in its London reinsurance operations. “That’s why we’re so excited to appoint Vicky to this role – she’s got a great passion for what we’re doing and for her team’s development," Cooper said.
"We are sure her leadership will be integral in continuing the growth of our global reinsurance proposition.”
