Canopius has announced a double appoint – impacting both cyber and claims.
Firstly, it has appointed a new head of claims in Bermuda, linking the move to the continued scaling of its reinsurance operations and the need for oversight of treaty claims globally.
The company has named Dan Bridges (pictured left) as head of claims, Bermuda, and global head of reinsurance claims. He will be based in Bermuda and is scheduled to join in August.
Charles Cooper, Bermuda CEO, said the appointment supports how the company serves brokers and insureds while its Bermuda reinsurance operations continue to grow.
“Canopius is always looking for ways to best serve its brokers and insureds, and we pride ourselves on always looking for a reason to pay a claim. As our Bermuda reinsurance operations scale at pace, maintaining that philosophy was essential. Bringing Dan in to lead claims is a crucial part of that. His expertise and experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow, and I look forward to welcoming him,” said Cooper.
Bridges joins with more than 20 years of London Market experience. He most recently worked at SCOR P&C, where he served as head of London and MEA treaty claims from June 2022, following a prior role as senior claims manager.
Before that, he was head of claims at Pioneer Underwriters from 2016 to 2020. He also spent over a decade at Markel, including roles as head of reinsurance claims and specialty claims manager, covering legacy business and specialty lines. His earlier career included a claims adjuster role at Equitas, focused on North American reinsurance exposures.
In addition, the firm has appointed Patrick Cannon (pictured right) as global head of cyber claims. He will be based in London and is set to join in May.
Cannon joins from Onda, where he has served as chief claims officer since April 2024. He previously led cyber claims at Marsh and held several enterprise risk and cyber-related claims roles at Tokio Marine Kiln over more than seven years.
His earlier experience includes roles at Brit Insurance and Heath Lambert Group, covering professional indemnity and non-marine claims.
Jen Smith, UK head of claims, said cyber remains a priority for the business.
“Cyber is a key priority for us. When insureds are facing what can be incredibly stressful and often business critical incidents, having dedicated, knowledgeable claims support is vital. Patrick’s appointment strengthens our ability to deliver exactly that and ensures we continue providing the highest level of service,” said Smith.
The appointments follow a period of profitability for the group, which reported profit after tax of $467m for 2025, up 16% from $401m in 2024, alongside a combined ratio of 88.5% on an undiscounted basis.
The company’s results also show that premium volume has nearly doubled since 2022, with a 96% increase over three years. Growth has been supported by activity across regions including the UK, US, Bermuda, and APAC.
