The Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has announced changes to its board of directors for the 2025-2027 term, including the election of its chair and vice chair, as well as the addition of three new board members.
Natasha Scotland Courcy (pictured above), CEO and general counsel of Athene Life Re, was re-elected as chair. Jamie Schmerer, head of enterprise risk management at Fortitude Re, will serve as vice chair.
The board will also welcome Danish Iqbal, CEO of Somerset Re; Tibor R. Leeuwenburgh, country executive for Aegon Bermuda; and Joseph Barrowclough, CFO of Gibraltar Reinsurance Company Ltd. and Lotus Reinsurance Company Ltd.
BILTIR CEO Suzanne Williams-Charles commented on the appointments, saying, “BILTIR plays a vital role in advancing Bermuda’s long-term reinsurance industry, and serving on the board reflects an intense dedication to this jurisdiction’s growth.”
Williams-Charles also acknowledged the board’s contributions, noting that strong leadership has supported BILTIR’s mission and helped reinforce Bermuda’s position in the reinsurance sector.
“Their guidance has helped advance BILTIR’s mission and strengthen Bermuda’s position as a leading reinsurance hub,” she said.

BILTIR also recently wrapped up its 13th annual Bermuda International Life and Annuity Conference, an event that drew more than 500 industry professionals from 17 countries.
Nearly half of the attendees traveled from outside Bermuda, highlighting the jurisdiction’s international reach and the growing global interest in Bermuda’s long-term re/insurance sector.
