Bermuda-based reinsurer Ariel Re distributed $216,000 to 30 charitable organizations in 2025 through its annual giving program, directing funds to community development groups, youth programs and health-focused charities across its Bermuda, London and Hong Kong operating locations.
The reinsurer has pledged additional funding through a separate "20 for 20" initiative to mark its 20th anniversary, though no specific dollar commitment has been disclosed.
"Ariel Re is strongly committed to supporting good causes in the communities in which we work," said Veronica King (pictured above), chair of the Ariel Re Charity Committee. King noted that corporate citizenship has been a priority for the reinsurer over the past two decades.
Among Bermuda-based recipients, Beyond Rugby Bermuda received funding for a program that serves approximately 100 youth annually across three schools – Cedarbridge Academy, Berkeley Institute and Dellwood Middle School.
The initiative runs twice weekly between October and May, providing homework support, rugby coaching, dinner, transportation and social skill development.
The program targets a critical challenge in Bermuda's education system. Founder John Layfield has noted a 50% school dropout rate for black Bermudian youths, with Beyond Rugby delivering a solution that has decreased dropout rates and increased camaraderie between peers and schools since launching in 2011.
Other Bermuda recipients included the Coalition for the Protection of Children, HOME, Gina Spence Champions Program, Vision Bermuda and It Takes a Village.
London-based Brain Tumour Research, another recipient, operates as the only national brain tumour charity in the UK funding sustainable research at dedicated Centres of Excellence. The organization supports what it describes as the largest team of laboratory-based brain tumour research experts in the UK.
Additional London recipients included Families United Network, Give.Help.Share., SOS, My Big Career, XLP Youth Charity, MCA and Autism Bedfordshire.
The company also contributed to the Acrisure Charity Football Tournament, SCARS – Kayak for Kids, the Brandon Darling Epilepsy Fundraiser and the Morris Memorial Tournament.
The "20 for 20" program will direct additional funding to 20 organizations in Bermuda and London during 2026, reflecting the locations tied to the company's growth.
Ariel Re celebrated its 20th anniversary in December 2025, with CEO Ryan Mather highlighting staff longevity as many team members have remained since the firm's founding in the catastrophe reinsurance market.
King credited staff participation for supporting the fundraising efforts.
