More than $25,000 has been raised for people experiencing hardship across New Zealand following a one-day matched-donation initiative tied to a seasonal fundraising appeal.
The campaign called “Double Your Impact Day” involved a partnership between NZbrokers and Orange Sky New Zealand. During the initiative, NZbrokers matched public donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, contributing to a combined total that exceeded $25,000.
The matched-giving day formed part of Orange Sky New Zealand’s Holiday Appeal, which focuses on funding frontline services for people experiencing homelessness or other forms of hardship during the holiday season. Donations support access to clean laundry, warm showers, and what the organisation describes as “genuine kōrero,” delivered in a non-judgmental and safe environment.
Orange Sky outlines specific donation amounts to illustrate how contributions are used. A $26 donation is intended to cover a clean load of laundry, a warm shower, and time for conversation and connection. A $52 contribution provides two people with access to laundry and shower services, while $122 supports up to two hours of kōrero alongside practical assistance. Larger donations at $296 are allocated to supporting an entire service shift, including laundry, showers, and conversation.
The organisation notes that the holiday period can be particularly isolating for people facing homelessness or financial difficulty. Funds raised through the appeal are used to support ongoing service delivery, including regular outreach sessions where volunteers set up mobile facilities and create space for connection within local communities.
The Holiday Appeal remains open for further donations, with organisers encouraging continued support to help sustain services through the holiday season.
