Insurance Business has released its 2025 ranking of New Zealand underwriting agencies, naming the firms that brokers say best support their work across key lines of business. The results reflect broker views on service delivery, product capability, and how agencies are responding to regulatory and market developments.

Survey approach and criteria

To compile the rankings, Insurance Business invited New Zealand insurance brokers to participate in an online survey distributed via social media channels and its email newsletter. Brokers were asked to nominate and rank their top three underwriting agencies in eight major insurance segments.

Alongside naming preferred agencies, brokers were also asked to comment on how underwriting agencies have performed over the past year. The survey sought feedback on whether turnaround times, product breadth, and pricing had improved, remained stable, or deteriorated.

To understand how brokers assess agencies overall, respondents were asked to rank the relative importance of seven specific elements of service when choosing an underwriting partner:

  • Commission structure
  • Speed of new business turnaround
  • Overall service standards
  • Coverage and policy features
  • Premium stability
  • Claims turnaround times
  • Level of broker support

Insurance Business used these responses to calculate the highest‑rated underwriting agencies in each category. For every insurance line, three agencies were recognised and assigned gold, silver, and bronze positions based on broker feedback.
