CSIO announced that Northbridge Insurance has received Certification for implementing its JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Application Programming Interface (API) Standards. The Certification applies to Northbridge’s use of JSON API Data Standards for First Notice of Loss (FNOL) transactions.
These standards were developed by CSIO’s INNOTECH API Implementation Working Groups to support data integration between insurers and broker management systems (BMS).
By using JSON, the Standards enable real-time data exchange, allowing brokers to receive information directly within their BMS. This reduces the need for brokers to access insurer portals or contact insurers directly for claim-related updates.
BMS vendors that integrate the FNOL APIs in line with these standards can offer brokers the ability to initiate FNOL claims directly with participating insurers, including Northbridge.
Chris Harness, chief information officer at Northbridge Insurance, stated that the Certification confirms the insurer’s application of Data Standards that make it possible for brokers to transmit claims information through their BMS as soon as a policyholder submits a claim.
Kathryn Sinclair, interim president at CSIO, noted that Northbridge’s adoption of the JSON API Standards demonstrates its ongoing use of digital tools to support broker operations.
In 2023, the CSIO announced that Northbridge Insurance is its first member to receive the Application Programming Interface (API) Security Standards Certification.
The company was able to achieve the API security standards certification by confirming alignment with the set standards and showcasing adept mitigation of all security concerns, mainly focusing on API endpoint security.
