Allianz SE has formed a global partnership with artificial intelligence firm Anthropic to advance the insurer's adoption of AI technology across its operations.
The collaboration will focus on three projects within the Allianz Group aimed at supporting employees, streamlining processes, and establishing standards for accuracy.
Oliver Bäte (pictured above), CEO of Allianz SE, said the partnership represents "a decisive step to address critical AI challenges in insurance." He added that Anthropic's focus on safety and transparency "complements our strong dedication to customer excellence and stakeholder trust."
Anthropic CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei noted that "insurance is an industry where the stakes of using AI are particularly high: the decisions can affect millions of people."
The partnership comes as Allianz pursues broader AI-driven transformation across its business. The insurer is separately planning to cut between 1,500 and 1,800 positions within its travel insurance operations over the next 12 to 18 months as AI reshapes customer and claims processes – a reduction equal to 6.6%–8% of Allianz Partners' total workforce.

Allianz's investment in AI arrives amid broader industry scrutiny over returns. An MIT paper suggested that as many as 95% of firms have yet to realise measurable ROI from AI initiatives.
The strongest early signals are emerging in efficiency-driven use cases – faster quote generation, improved renewal rates, and reduced claims cycle times – rather than transformative reinvention.
The first project involves deploying Anthropic's Claude models as part of Allianz's internal AI platform, available to all employees. Claude Code is already being used by thousands of Allianz developers worldwide.
The second initiative centres on developing custom AI agents to automate multi-step workflows, including intake documentation and claims processing in motor and health insurance. Allianz indicated its human-in-the-loop principle will remain in place for sensitive cases.
The third project involves co-developing AI systems designed to log every decision, rationale, and data source to address regulatory requirements.
