Mitch Insurance has launched a new community initiative, MitchCares, beginning with 110 employee volunteer hours at three Ontario food banks amid record-high demand for food support across the province.

Employees volunteered with the Windsor-Essex County Food Bank Association, the Good Shepherd Venture Centre Food Bank, and Feed the Need in Durham.

MitchCares formalizes charitable efforts that the brokerage has supported informally for several years. The company said it plans to identify priority focus areas for the initiative in 2026, with additional giving and volunteer programs designed to support local organizations.

The initiative comes as food bank usage in Ontario continues a nine-year upward trend, with more than 8.7 million visits recorded between April 2024 and March 2025, according to Feed Ontario’s Hunger Report 2025.

The report shows that more than one million people accessed food banks over the past year, nearly double the number seen in 2019-20. Demand is increasingly outpacing the capacity of community organizations, many of which rely primarily on local donations rather than government funding.

“Launching MitchCares by volunteering at food banks was a powerful reminder of how easy it is to take the holiday spirit for granted,” said Desiree Minielly, director of brand and experience at Mitch Insurance. “The comfort of a warm home, food on the table, gifts under the tree, and the joy of celebrating with loved ones aren’t givens for countless families – they’re hopes.”

She added that employees have shown strong interest in helping shape the initiative over the next two years.

“At Mitch, we’re on a mission to make insurance lovable,” Minielly said. “Every chance we get, we want to make good things happen and solve real needs for our clients and communities. MitchCares is a meaningful way for us to bring this brand promise to life.”

Founded in 1948, Mitch Insurance works with more than 70 Canadian insurers and has earned recognition in recent years for growth and brokerage performance.
