First Onsite’s British Columbia team recently engaged in fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) following the January 2023 diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia in their colleague Todd Yuen, a business operations manager with the company.
Yuen’s diagnosis highlighted the financial challenges faced by patients with blood cancers, including the high cost of medications not fully covered under public healthcare plans. In response, First Onsite employees organized fundraising activities, including participation in the LLSC’s Light the Night Walk, and collectively raised $23,527, surpassing their original $20,000 target. The company intends to continue supporting similar initiatives on an annual basis, providing sustained financial assistance to families affected by blood cancers.
In addition to their work with the LLSC, First Onsite also completed a donation-matching campaign in support of Happy Days Sanctuary, an animal rescue facility in Niagara, Ontario. The initiative ran from July to October 2025, with the company matching up to $10,000 in employee and community contributions, resulting in a total of $20,050 raised.
Happy Days Sanctuary operates as a year-round facility, providing long-term care for rescued and abandoned animals. The facility faced a significant loss on Dec. 7, 2025, when a fire in the basement killed 31 cats and required the emergency transfer of 12 others to veterinary care.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support veterinary treatment and the rebuilding of affected facilities, raising over $22,000, with additional donations accepted through Canada Helps, the company said.
From an insurance and risk management perspective, the fire at Happy Days Sanctuary illustrates the vulnerability of small-scale facilities to property damage and operational disruptions.
The company’s community-focused initiatives also align with its professional mission, emphasizing the broader role of risk management in protecting both people and property.
