First Onsite Property Restoration is marking Pet Fire Safety Day with a $10,000 matching donation to Happy Days Sanctuary, a Niagara-based animal rescue founded in the wake of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires.

The contribution will support the sanctuary’s efforts to care for animals displaced by disasters, neglect, or abandonment. First Onsite will match public donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, as part of its ongoing partnership with the organization.

Donations to Happy Days Sanctuary made in connection with this campaign will be matched by First Onsite until the $10,000 cap is reached. The funds will help cover the cost of food, shelter, veterinary care, and other essentials for the animals that call the sanctuary home.

Happy Days officially opened in 2018. When the Fort McMurray wildfire, nicknamed “The Beast”, forced nearly 90,000 people from their homes and destroyed more than 2,400 properties, many pets were left behind in the rush to evacuate. A small group of volunteers began rescuing and reuniting those animals with their families. That effort evolved into a permanent operation.

Today, the sanctuary spans 14 hectares in rural Niagara, Ontario, and provides a safe haven for a wide range of animals, including cats, dogs, pigs, goats, and horses. While some animals are adopted, many live out their lives at the facility.

Since launching, Happy Days has expanded its reach beyond Fort McMurray, taking in animals from across Canada. The sanctuary also runs public education programmes, working with schools and local groups to promote responsible pet care and emergency planning.

First Onsite, which specializes in disaster response and property restoration, has been a long-time supporter of the sanctuary. The company has contributed through fundraising drives, supply donations, and awareness campaigns focused on disaster preparedness for pet owners.

“Pet Fire Safety Day is a timely reminder that pets are also victims when disaster strikes,” said First Onsite in a statement. “Supporting organizations like Happy Days is part of building resilient communities.”
