Axis Insurance Managers Inc. has acquired Treasures Insurance Edmonton Inc., in a move that deepens the brokerage’s presence in Alberta and adds another local hub to its growing national network.
The deal comes amid continued consolidation in the Canadian brokerage sector, with regional firms joining larger platforms that can offer broader market access, specialty expertise and greater investment in technology and support. For Axis, Edmonton represents a strategic hub in a province with a significant concentration of commercial activity in energy, construction and real estate, alongside a competitive personal lines market.
The acquisition brings together a regional broker known for personalized commercial and personal insurance solutions with a full-service national brokerage platform. Treasures Insurance Edmonton has built its reputation serving local businesses and households in the Edmonton area, while Axis brings specialist capabilities across commercial lines, personal lines, life and employee benefits, and wealth advisory.
Axis said the combined operation is intended to enhance its ability to deliver comprehensive insurance and advisory services to clients across Canada while retaining local service in the Edmonton market. By adding Treasures’ local book and relationships, Axis gains additional distribution and on-the-ground expertise in Alberta’s capital, while Treasures’ clients gain access to Axis’s 16 specialized practice groups and wider carrier panel.
As part of the transaction, former Treasures leader Chris Waye has joined Axis Insurance as senior vice president, corporate development and director, Edmonton. In that role, he will support the expansion of Axis’s footprint in the city and help integrate the acquired business into the wider group.
Founded in 1928, Axis has grown into a national brokerage with more than 400 professionals. The firm places commercial and personal insurance, as well as life, employee benefits and wealth advisory solutions, for local, national and international clients. Its practice-group structure is designed to bring specialist knowledge – for example in construction, real estate, professional lines and other niche segments – to regional markets through local offices such as Edmonton.
The deal continues Axis’s use of targeted acquisitions alongside organic growth to build scale and specialist capability. For carriers, the combination creates a more concentrated but technically focused distribution partner in Alberta, while for producers and staff it offers a path into a larger platform with employee ownership and cross-practice collaboration.
