HDI Global Canada is expanding its marine division under new leadership.
Michael Wright (pictured) joined the insurer last year as head of marine for Canada and has been driving growth in the division through what the company describes as client-focused solutions and broker partnerships.
“We are scaling up our national Canadian marine presence for our broker partners across the country,” Wright said. “Having spent a decade as an insurance broker, I have a deep understanding of timelines, market cycles, and most importantly, client messaging and expectations.”
Wright said the company delivers solutions that address broker partner expectations, supported by technical expertise and service standards.
Wright brings more than 30 years of industry experience to the role. He began his career as an insurance broker specializing in marine insurance, advising clients on cargo and liability exposures, before transitioning to underwriting two decades ago.
Throughout his career, Wright has held leadership roles, developed programs for international marine and logistics, produced educational resources for insurance brokers, and served on industry committees in Canada and the United States.
Klaus Navarrete, managing director of HDI Global Canada and chief agent, said Wright brings both broker insight and carrier experience to the team.
“His leadership reflects the progress of our marine division in Canada, strengthening our position as a trusted long-term partner in transformation and bolstering our local underwriting expertise,” Navarrete said. “We’re focused on clarity for brokers and responsive service for clients across the country.”
The expansion comes as HDI Global Canada, a corporate and specialty insurer, seeks to strengthen its position in the Canadian market. Analysts and industry bodies, including the Insurance Bureau of Canada, have pointed to easing renewal rates for commercial insurance across multiple lines of coverage and a competitive environment that persists into early 2026.
