GreenShield has introduced a national program to address hormonal health concerns that affect a significant portion of the Canadian population.
The Personalized Hormonal Health Program, announced this week, offers tailored support for individuals experiencing life-stage hormonal changes, including perimenopause, menopause, andropause, and low testosterone.
The initiative is part of GreenShield+, the company’s integrated platform that combines healthcare services with benefits coverage. GreenShield is Canada’s only national non-profit health and benefits provider.
The program responds to widespread but often under-recognized health challenges. Company data indicates that three in four Canadian women report disruptive menopausal symptoms, while one in four men experience hormonal shifts such as low testosterone. Despite this, access to consistent information and personalized care remains limited.
"Hormonal health is not a niche issue—it's a national health gap," said Joe Blomeley, executive vice president, GreenShield Health. "Nearly half of Canadian women feel unprepared for menopause, and awareness of hormonal changes in men remains limited. Canadians deserve access to care that not only informs but empowers them to thrive through every stage of life."
The new offering includes a nurse-led intake and health assessment, hormone panel testing, personalized care planning, virtual consultations with a hormonal health provider, ongoing digital support, and home delivery of treatments. It is fully integrated with GreenShield’s broader health services, including mental health, telemedicine, pharmacy, and well-being tools.
The company said the program is designed to help users understand and manage how hormonal changes impact areas such as energy, sleep, mood, and metabolism. It is intended to address gaps in health services and support Canadians through various stages of life with care that adapts to changing needs.
GreenShield+ also offers a digital interface to help members navigate their health needs. Features include life-stage support, personalized recommendations, and simplified access to services and coverage.
“Hormonal changes can deeply affect a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being—often leading to lower engagement and more time away from work,” said Nadim Kara, executive vice president of People and Culture. “Our integrated model is designed to meet people where they are, making it easier to access holistic care that reflects their individual needs.”
The new program is being made available to GreenShield employees through its Total Rewards benefits package. The package also includes $10,000 annually in mental health coverage, $3,000 in donation matching, and benefits related to family planning and gender affirmation. Employees now have access to three hormonal health consultations as part of the expanded plan.
