Axis Insurance Managers Inc. has appointed Kevan Thompson as national senior vice president of its Construction, Contractors & Real Estate (CCRE) practice group.

In his new role, Thompson (pictured above) will lead the firm’s national CCRE practice, overseeing strategy and the delivery of risk management, insurance, and performance security solutions to clients in Canada’s construction sector.

Thompson brings more than 20 years of experience in construction risk management, with expertise in project-specific insurance programs, contract review and modeling, contract surety, and subcontractor default insurance. He has held senior leadership positions throughout his career and is recognized for helping organizations address complex risks while supporting growth and competitiveness.

The appointment comes at a time when construction insurance is drawing increased attention across Canada. Inflationary pressures, supply chain disruptions, and rising claims costs have heightened the need for specialized programs, while regulatory changes and contractual complexities have pushed insurers and brokers to innovate. Industry peers such as Marsh, Aon, and WTW have also recently bolstered their Canadian construction practices, reflecting growing client demand for tailored solutions and risk transfer mechanisms.

Earlier this month, the company named Mary Falconer as its new finance chief. Bryan Craigen was also appointed as head of carrier relations, where he will oversee the company's carrier strategy and align insurer offerings with client needs.

Axis Insurance, founded in 1928, has grown into a national brokerage with more than 400 professionals across the country. The firm provides risk management and insurance solutions to local, national, and international clients and operates through 16 specialized practice groups. Its services include commercial and personal insurance, employee benefits, life insurance, and wealth advisory.

The company has pursued both organic growth and acquisitions to expand its presence, building a collaborative model that emphasizes tailored client strategies and adaptability to evolving market conditions.

With Thompson leading its construction and real estate practice, Axis aims to strengthen its ability to deliver industry-specific solutions in a competitive brokerage market where specialized expertise is increasingly a differentiator.
