Westland Insurance is working with Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) in supporting community resilience this Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The insurer will match donations up to $25,000 made to CPAWS until midnight of that date, doubling the impact of every contribution.

The initiative reflects Westland Insurance’s broader strategy under its Amplifying Communities program, launched in 2021, which directs support to organizations that strengthen the communities where its employees live and work.

Since 2021, Westland has committed a foundation budget of $1 million to the Amplifying Communities initiative to support projects across Canada in areas including environmental protection, mental health, diversity & inclusion, homelessness, food insecurity, and more.

This year, the program’s Climate Resilience pillar is the top priority, aligning charitable support with issues increasingly relevant to the insurance sector, such as extreme weather and environmental risk mitigation.

Communities across Canada are experiencing the impacts of climate change in tangible ways, and Westland is focusing on partnerships that strengthen community resilience. Its collaboration with CPAWS advances meaningful action in areas where it is needed most.

From an insurance perspective, initiatives like this support risk mitigation indirectly by promoting the protection of natural spaces that buffer communities from climate-related hazards. Forests, wetlands, and other protected areas can reduce the severity of floods, erosion, and storm impacts — factors that influence home and commercial insurance claims.

By investing in these natural safeguards, insurers like Westland are helping communities become more resilient while potentially reducing future claims exposure.

Giving Tuesday demonstrates what can be achieved when people come together for nature, and matched contributions ensure that every donation goes twice as far toward protecting Canada’s land, freshwater, and ocean. Partnerships like this illustrate that collective action can make a measurable difference for wildlife, communities, and the planet.

Westland Insurance’s matching donations double the impact of contributions made on this day, supporting both environmental and community resilience.

Through this campaign, Westland Insurance not only supports environmental stewardship but also highlights the growing intersection between community resilience and the insurance sector’s role in managing climate-related risk.
