Intact Financial Corporation is highlighting the performance of several sponsored athletes following Canada’s 21-medal finish at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina Olympic Winter Games.

Canada closed the Games with five gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals. Among the medalists were athletes supported through Intact’s sports sponsorship initiatives, including short track speed skater William Dandjinou and hockey player Ella Shelton. Shelton earned silver as part of Canada’s women’s hockey team, while Dandjinou secured silver in short track team competition. Snowboarder Laurie Blouin, also sponsored by Intact, competed in women’s snowboard events.

A significant portion of Canada’s medal count came from athletes affiliated with Speed Skating Canada, which captured 10 of the country’s 21 medals, including two gold. Intact has partnered with Speed Skating Canada for more than two decades, supporting athlete development from grassroots programs through to the national team level.

The insurer’s Olympic involvement extends through a multi-year agreement with the Canadian Olympic Committee, beginning with the 2026 Winter Games and continuing through the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

“Our athletes’ Olympic performances are a testament to teamwork, perseverance and excellence. Intact Insurance is proud to support Team Canada and help Canadian athletes to pursue their Olympic dreams and leave their mark,” said Imen Zitouni, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Intact Financial Corporation.

Multi-sport footprint and women’s pro leagues

Beyond the Olympic stage, Intact has spent nearly two decades building a multi‑sport sponsorship portfolio that spans community programs and emerging professional leagues.

Aside from its long-term partnership with Speed Skating Canada, Intact has sponsored the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens since 2011. More recently, it has become an early backer of new women’s professional competitions, acting as a founding partner of the Northern Super League – Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league – and the Women’s Professional Hockey League.

Intact’s branding is also embedded in the sport’s infrastructure as naming partner of the Centre des glaces Intact Assurance in Quebec City, a major training venue for both elite and community skaters. That association aligns the insurer with themes of preparation, discipline and performance – concepts that translate readily into conversations about risk prevention, loss control and resilience in its core insurance business.

Those commitments placed Intact among a small group of Canadian carriers using women’s sport as a platform to demonstrate inclusion, community impact and long‑term investment, issues that are increasingly important to regulators, institutional investors and prospective employees in the insurance sector.

For Canada’s insurance market, Intact’s approach illustrates how a major P&C carrier is using Olympic and elite‑sport partnerships not only for visibility, but as part of a broader strategy around brand positioning, community presence and stakeholder engagement. With three sponsored Olympians, deep roots in speed skating and a COC agreement that extends to LA 2028, Intact is signaling that sport will remain a core pillar of how it connects insurance, resilience and national identity in the coming years.
