Drayden Insurance Ltd., a division of McDougall Insurance Brokers Limited, is adding another Alberta brokerage to its network, announcing the acquisition of Tannas Insurance Brokers Inc. in St. Paul, Alberta.
Tannas has served the St. Paul community for almost 75 years. Under the transaction, the brokerage will continue operating in the community, while Tannas president Trevor Duchesneau is set to retire after a transition period.
“I knew if I pursued a deal, it would have to be with a partner who is unquestionably committed to our home and our people. I know that partnering with Drayden and McDougall ensures that what makes our business so special will endure. I am very proud of what our team has accomplished, and excited for what I know the future will bring,” Duchesneau said.
Drayden said the acquisition will allow it to support Tannas’ clients and staff while keeping in place the characteristics that made the brokerage a fit for the group.
“Tannas already feels like part of the family. They focus on the people—just like we do. And we couldn’t be happier to now support their clients and their team with our scale and resources—without compromising what makes Tannas so special,” Drayden president Catherine Cake said.
"Drayden and Tannas are an ideal fit, which is the single most important element of any deal we do. Brokers like Tannas, who care deeply about their homes, their community, their people and their staff, are exactly what we look for when identifying M&A partners. We are thrilled to be able to augment the excellence of the Tannas team with our size and expertise,” said Lorne McDougall, vice president of McDougall Insurance.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the transaction in the announcement.
Drayden became part of McDougall’s national broker platform at the end of 2023. At the time, Drayden generated about $125 million in annual premiums, employed more than 170 people, and operated across eight locations in the Edmonton area through its brokerage and registry businesses.
Since then, Drayden has continued to make acquisitions of its own. In January 2024, it bought Darson Insurance Services in Stony Plain, Alberta, and in August 2025, it acquired the life and group benefits business of St. Albert Financial Corporation.
