McDougall Insurance has announced the winners of its 12th annual community contest, awarding a total of $10,000 to three organizations across Ontario.
Snowflake Meadows Animal Rescue in Haliburton received the top prize of $5,000. Arts Hub Brockville was awarded $3,000 for second place, while the Almonte Citivan Accessible Family Playground took third place with $2,000.
The contest attracted over 140 submissions from across the province, including entries from the Bay of Quinte region, Alliston, Peterborough and Cambridge. This year, more than 24,200 votes were cast by the public, with individuals permitted to vote once per day.
McDougall Insurance said the contest is designed to provide financial support to local organizations working to address a variety of community needs.
Past contests have targeted charitable groups, community initiatives, and projects promoting wellbeing and inclusion. Last year’s winners were the Wilberforce Loop Troupe, Quinte West Lost Paws, and Terry Fox Public School.
The contest is open to all, regardless of affiliation with McDougall Insurance, and winners are determined through public voting. The process aims to increase awareness of local organizations and their impact.
In addition to the community contest, McDougall Insurance engages in various charitable efforts throughout the year. During the holiday season, each branch selects a local charity to support, contributing donations such as food, toys, and funds to organizations like food banks and the Salvation Army.
The company also participates in initiatives like the SeedIt campaign, which supports local gardens in growing food for donation, aiming to enhance food security in communities.
