Max Insurance and The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group have both achieved eDocs Certification from the Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO), a development that enhances digital data connectivity between insurers and brokers.

The certification confirms that both insurers' eDocs now contain updated codes and descriptions when sent to Broker Management Systems (BMS). With all BMS vendors having implemented the latest eDocs Standards, brokers can receive clearly labelled documents directly in their systems. This allows them to identify documents instantly and manage customer tasks more efficiently.

For insurers, certification is tied to CSIO’s Standards Certification Ratings, which signal how well carriers align with industry data standards. The Commonwell has now reached Platinum status -- the highest possible rating -- for personal lines, while maintaining a Gold rating for commercial lines. Max Insurance has improved its standing to Gold for personal lines.

Industry leaders underscored the broker benefits of the certification. Tim Shauf, president and CEO of The Commonwell, said the milestone reflects the company’s focus on supporting brokers in providing coverage and advice more effectively. Max Insurance CEO Steve Manville noted that the updated eDocs standard frees brokers to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time serving customers.

For the broader insurance sector, CSIO’s eDocs Certification marks a key step in digital transformation. eDocs have become a core part of broker workflow across Canada, and the adoption of updated standards reduces friction between carriers and distribution partners. By ensuring consistency in how documents are shared and labelled, insurers help brokers manage service requests more quickly and accurately.

As more insurers adopt and upgrade to CSIO’s latest certification standards, brokers are positioned to benefit from a more streamlined digital ecosystem. For both The Commonwell and Max Insurance, their certification not only enhances broker relationships but also signals alignment with industry-wide efforts to modernize insurance operations through data standards.
