Manulife Canada has rolled out a new digital platform aimed at strengthening its travel insurance distribution through agents, underscoring how insurers are adapting to rising demand for coverage in a post-pandemic travel environment.

Platform features

The platform is designed to streamline how travel professionals offer insurance to customers, with tools that make product selection, client engagement, and policy management more efficient. The company said the technology will evolve over time to meet shifting industry and consumer needs.

The launch comes at a time when travellers are placing greater emphasis on insurance protection following years of global disruption. Agents continue to play a central role in this space, guiding customers through increasingly complex options around medical coverage, trip cancellation, and emergency assistance. By enhancing agents’ ability to match products with client needs, Manulife is seeking to reinforce its position in a competitive market where distribution remains a key differentiator.

One of the platform’s highlights is a new Non-Medical Premium Protection Plan, designed for travellers who already have health coverage but want trip-focused protection, such as cancellation, interruption, baggage loss, or delays. The system also introduces a product selector tool, allowing agents to quickly align policies with client itineraries, and automated engagement features that deliver coverage reminders leading up to departure.

Industry observers noted that such developments point to a broader shift in how insurers are rethinking distribution. With customers expecting more personalized and seamless service, technology is becoming a critical enabler for intermediaries.

For Manulife, the platform is also a way of deepening its relationship with partner agencies, who have already begun transitioning to the system and have reported improvements in usability.

A dynamic market

Travel insurance remains one of the most dynamic segments in the Canadian insurance landscape. While pricing and policy structures are largely shaped by underwriting capacity and global risk events, the distribution model is becoming equally important. Manulife’s investment in agent-facing tools suggests that major players see technology not just as an operational upgrade but as a competitive necessity to retain market share.

By equipping agents with digital capabilities that align with customer expectations, insurers are positioning themselves to capture growing demand for travel protection while strengthening the advisor channel that remains central to the sector.
