Canada’s insurance industry continues to see active talent movement and regional expansion as carriers and insurtechs position themselves for growth in specialized lines.
BOXX Insurance has reinforced its position in Canada’s cyber insurance market with four senior appointments across distribution, underwriting, and claims.
Katie Pollock (pictured above, left) has been named head of broker distribution, bringing over a decade of experience from Coalition, Berkley and Travelers. She will oversee broker engagement and market development, supporting the rollout of BOXX’s integrated cyber insurance and protection solutions.
Joining her on the distribution side is Michael Lai (pictured above, right), appointed business development manager. Lai previously held roles in cyber underwriting and claims at Northbridge Insurance and AIG, and will focus on expanding broker partnerships across Canada.
In underwriting, Julie Poulin has been appointed senior production underwriter. Based in Montreal, she brings more than 10 years of experience from AIG, Chubb, and Berkley Canada. Poulin will support brokers nationwide while driving BOXX’s strategic growth in Quebec.
On the claims front, Melanie Bean joins as claims manager within the Global Claims and Hackbusters team. She brings nearly two decades of experience in cyber, commercial, and property claims from Crawford and CyberScout, and will strengthen BOXX’s proactive claims response for Canadian SME clients.
Jonathan Weekes, president of BOXX Insurance Canada, said the appointments demonstrate the company’s ability to attract experienced insurance professionals in a competitive market. He added that the hires align with BOXX’s commitment to providing best-in-class, all-in-one cyber insurance and protection products backed by responsive claims service.

Meanwhile, HDI Global Canada has appointed Ian Rutherford (pictured immediately above) as head of Pacific Region and executive property underwriter, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, marking a key step in its national growth strategy.
Rutherford brings over 35 years of experience in property underwriting, risk-managed accounts, and natural catastrophe risk management. He will lead regional growth initiatives, focusing on broker engagement and client partnerships across Western Canada.
Klaus Navarrete, managing director of HDI Global Canada, said Rutherford’s appointment supports the company’s long-term commitment to regional expansion and client-focused underwriting. Rutherford added that HDI’s international capabilities and strong Canadian portfolio position it to deliver tailored property insurance solutions and strengthen broker relationships in the Pacific region.
