AXIS Capital Holdings and BMS have announced senior appointments aimed at bolstering their respective operations in Canada.
AXIS Capital Holdings has appointed Moustafa Abdelrahman (pictured above) as senior underwriter and assistant vice president, renewable energy.
The hire marks the company’s first renewables-focused property underwriter based in Toronto and is part of a broader effort to enhance its offering in the Canadian clean energy sector.
Abdelrahman will focus on underwriting construction and operational property risks tied to wind, solar, hydroelectric, and battery storage technologies. Working closely with brokers and clients in Canada, he will also coordinate with AXIS Global Energy teams in the US and London. He reports to Sam Walsh, head of North America Renewable Energy.
Abdelrahman previously served as a senior analyst at Brookfield Renewable, where he was responsible for policy placement, acquisition due diligence, and claims review. He has also held underwriting roles at Intact Insurance, contributing to the development of battery storage underwriting guidelines.
“Moustafa brings experience and strong credentials to our global energy team as we build out our offerings to customers in Canada, expanding our reach across North America,” said Walsh. “Having on-the-ground underwriting expertise is an exciting step forward for us as we lean into opportunities and rise to the challenges of a complex energy risk landscape.”
BMS, the independent insurance and reinsurance broker, has appointed Cory Wilson as director in its Canadian retail team. Wilson joins the business effective immediately and will report to Dan Reid, managing director, BMS Canada.
In his new role, Wilson will focus on the strategic development of BMS’s retail operations, aiming to strengthen existing client relationships and build new ones.

His experience and market insight will prove valuable as we continue to build out our Canadian retail capabilities,” said Brian Gomes, president & CEO, BMS Canada. “It is currently a dynamic time for the business, and it feels like an opportune moment for Cory to join.”
