The Insurance Institute of Canada's (IIC) Insurance Career Connections division is gearing up to celebrate Virtual Insurance Take Our Kids to Work Day on Nov. 5.

Formerly known as “Feed the Minds of Youth Day,” the annual event invites insurance professionals across Canada to bring their Grade 9 children to work, either virtually or in person, to showcase the range of career opportunities in the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry.

Insurance Career Connections has prepared a full day of activities, including interactive career sessions, chats with industry professionals, and trivia challenges. The program aims to help students understand the daily responsibilities of insurance professionals while highlighting the vital role the industry plays in protecting people, property, and businesses across the country.

The virtual event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET, with sessions that include an interactive panel discussion with guest speakers from the insurance sector, an “Ask Me Anything” chat with professionals, and a “Spot the Risk” challenge featuring risk managers, loss control specialists, and underwriters. Students will also have access to pre-recorded career-readiness workshops on resume writing, interview preparation, and day-in-the-life experiences in insurance.

Beyond Take Our Kids to Work Day, IIC’s Career Connections division also runs other initiatives throughout the year to promote awareness of insurance careers. These include virtual and in-person career fairs, “Industry Days” at high schools and post-secondary campuses, and the Career Builder Series, which offers guidance on professional development and networking within the sector.

Through these outreach efforts, IIC continues to build awareness of the diverse career paths available in insurance — from underwriting and claims to analytics, risk management, and brokerage — helping to strengthen the industry’s future workforce.
