Everest Group Ltd. has appointed Jason Busti as head of North America treaty reinsurance, giving him responsibility for the company's treaty reinsurance business across the US, Bermuda and Canada.

Busti will report to Jill Beggs, EVP and CEO of reinsurance, and will join her leadership team.

“Jason is a highly respected leader with a deep understanding of the North American reinsurance market and a proven track record of building strong client partnerships,” Beggs said. “His extensive experience managing large treaty portfolios and longstanding relationships with clients and brokers across the industry make him exceptionally well positioned to lead our North America business.”

Deep treaty experience

Before joining Everest, Busti served as president of North America at AXIS Re, where he led treaty reinsurance operations in the US, Bermuda, and Canada.

Earlier in his career, he spent more than 20 years at Swiss Re in a range of senior leadership roles, including managing director and client executive. In that capacity, he was responsible for client management and broker market underwriting teams, driving growth across global client portfolios and overseeing large, multi‑line treaty relationships.

“Jason is an excellent addition to our senior leadership team, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to strengthen our offering throughout North America and deliver long-term value to our partners,” Beggs added.

An adjusting market

For reinsurance professionals, the move comes as North American treaty markets continue to adjust after several years of property‑cat repricing, tighter terms and conditions, and increased focus on portfolio quality. Global reinsurers have generally improved underwriting margins following the 2023–2024 hardening cycle, but cedents and brokers are still dealing with close scrutiny on aggregation, climate‑exposed property and liability severity.

In that environment, Everest’s decision to bring in a leader who has run the North American treaty franchise at AXIS Re and spent decades at Swiss Re signals an intention to compete aggressively for large treaty programs and deepen relationships with key cedents and intermediaries across the US, Bermuda, and Canada.
