Axis Insurance Managers has named Rick Brown as its new national vice president of transportation for risk strategy and client solutions, bolstering the brokerage's expertise in Canada's transportation insurance market.
Based in Ontario, Brown (pictured above) will lead Axis' risk advisory and client solutions efforts for the transporation sector, working with fleets and logistics operators across the country. He brings over 25 years of experience spanning fleet operations, safety management and insurance, giving him both hands-on operational insight and technical risk expertise.
Brown's dual background in fleet and insurance enabled Axis to design solutions for transportation clients contending with regulatory pressures, rising costs and complex exposures. He emphasizes translating intricate transportation risks into actionable strategies through client education and training.
According to Suzie Rae, national senior vice president of transportation at Axis, Brown's appointment aligns with the company's mission to elevate safety and performance.
Axis’s investment in specialized transportation leadership tracks a broader industry trend. For instance, Navacord recently expanded its transportation and logistics vertical with new hires focused on telematics and cargo risk, while Hub International has boosted its trucking practice, adding staff with operational backgrounds to enhance underwriting insight. The moves underscore how brokerages are competing not just on price, but on deep sector knowledge to support complex transportation clients.
Last month, Axis Insurance also appointed Kevan Thompson as national senior vice president of its Construction, Contractors & Real Estate (CCRE) practice group. It also named Mary Falconer as its new chief financial officer, where she oversees financial stewardship at a time when brokerages are facing mounting pressures to scale and adapt.
Founded in 1928, Axis Insurance has grown into a national brokerage with more than 375 professionals offering commercial, personal and employee benefits solutions. Its transportation practice is a central specialty, providing fleet risk management, insurance placement and strategic advisory services to Canadian logistics and transport firms.
